Australian Studies Centre at Mudanjiang Normal University was founded on 2 August, 2009. Professor Liang Zhongxian, Ph.D in Australian Literature, Ph.D supervisor, Vice-President of Mudanjiang Normal University, is the centre director. Professor Liang is member of the National Association of Australian Studies in China, council member of Foreign Languages Studies Association of Heilongjiang Province, Visiting Scholar to La Trobe University,member of Fellowship of Australian Writers West Australia, part-time Professor of East China Normal University, part-time Professor and Ph.D supervisor of Northeast Normal University, Famous Teacher of Heilongjiang Province. Recently Professor Liang published monographs such as Semiotic Interpretation of Elizabeth Jolley’s Novels (2007), Between Margin and Centre--- Semiotic Significance of Jolley’s Works (2009), etc. Professor Liang also published more than 40 academic articles in journals such as Foreign Literature Review, Journal of Foreign Languages, Contemporary Foreign Literature, Foreign Language World, etc. Professor Liang was awarded Excellent Teaching Achievement Prize and Excellent Social Sciences Achievement Prize by Education Department of Heilongjiang Province. Professor Liang is director of one National Philosophy and Social Science Fund Projiect, five scientific projects in Heilongjiang Province, director of an ACC project. There are sixteen researchers at the centre: four professors, seven associate professors, ten lecturers, one teaching assistants. The centre now has 800 books and videos in the field of Australian Studies.
